The Ultimate Solo Female Travel Guide To Las Vegas! When I arrived in Las Vegas for the first time in June 2011, I wasn’t sure what to expect! The bright lights, the crazy hotels, the endless casino halls, and the many show options felt overwhelming! I have been to Las Vegas several times since 2011 and have travelled alone as a woman, too!
Yes, a woman can definitely go to Las Vegas alone!
Las Vegas? You love it, or you hate it! I really do have a love-hate relationship with it. But did you know that Las Vegas, besides the iconic Las Vegas Strip, is the perfect starting point for a fantastic road trip to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon and Death Valley?
Las Vegas has so much more than just the Strip. As a solo female traveller, I discovered Las Vegas isn’t just about bachelorette parties or gambling.
The best thing about Las Vegas is that you can explore so many great things not far from it. Yes, the Strip is a must when in Las Vegas, and you definitely have to catch a show or 2.
I love Las Vegas for women looking for a fun solo trip! You can indeed travel to Las Vegas alone as a woman. You’ll get a mix of entertainment and outdoors! That sounds like a perfect solo week away to me!
In this guide, I’ll share my experiences and practical tips to help you navigate Las Vegas confidently and safely on your solo adventure.
Is Las Vegas safe for solo female travel?
Las Vegas is just as safe as other major cities in the United States. It’s also not that big! You can divide it into two parts: the Strip and Downtown. If you stick to these areas, you’ll be perfectly fine.
The Strip is very busy, so it would be very hard for something to happen here. If you walk around downtown (Freemont Street), you’re good, too. The area around Freemont Street is always busy.
However, if you’re planning on walking more towards the Arts District, I recommend taking a taxi. It’s possible to walk during the day, but like most cities in the US, Las Vegas is not a walkable city.
You’ll be safe if you stick to the Strip or Freemont Street and use taxis to get around the areas. Practise the same safety precautions you would do at home.
When to visit Las Vegas?
I feel Las Vegas is good the whole year around! But don’t get confused about the weather! It can get pretty chilly in winter, and summers are scolding hot, as Las Vegas has a desert climate. During summer, you can easily walk from hotel to hotel and enjoy the blasting air conditioning everywhere (Americans love their air conditioning and ice cubes, lol).
But I feel the best time to visit Las Vegas is in spring and fall. The temperatures are much better for sightseeing, especially in the national parks and state parks nearby.
Is it fun to go to Las Vegas solo?
Well, it all depends on what you’re looking for! But I’d say yes! First of all, Las Vegas is affordable for solo travellers compared to other major US cities. While accommodation can really dig into your budget in cities like Los Angeles or New York, there are budget options for solo travellers.
Most importantly, Las Vegas is safe, and you can craft a solo trip that offers the ultimate combination of entertainment and outdoor activities! This solo female travel guide to Las Vegas is all about this!
Where to stay in Las Vegas as a solo female traveller?
As I said, Las Vegas has two main areas: the Strip and Downtown. I’ve stayed in both places, and both work for me. But if it’s your first time in Las Vegas, I recommend staying on the Strip, preferably right in the middle!
On the Strip, you’re close to all the major hotels and entertainment. You can easily walk around the Strip and be safe, even in the evenings!
Hotels on The Strip
The Cosmopolitan
What I like about the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas is it’s ideally located on the Strip. You’re not far from all the cool stuff, like Paris Las Vegas (the Eiffel Tower) and the Bellagio. A few shopping malls are nearby, like Grand Bazaar shops or The Shops at Crystals.
The Cosmopolitan has a great pool where you can relax, a nice bar where you can have a drink, and one of my favourite restaurants, Momofuku. Definitely check this place out for your stay in Las Vegas. I feel it’s a great price-value combination for what you’re getting and the perfect location.
Marriott’s Grand Chateau
Are you looking for a no-casino and no-smoking hotel? Then, the Marriott’s Grand Chateau is a must! This hotel is located on the Strip, right in the middle. You experience the authentic Las Vegas vibe, just not when you want to relax and sleep.
If you’re not into gambling and don’t like the smoke in every hotel, the Marriott’s Grand Chateau is the place to be. The rooms are spacious, and there’s even a fridge and microwave in your room (most hotels in Las Vegas charge an extra fee for these facilities).
The hotel also has two pools with a pool bar. You’ll have everything you need in a quiet setting, just in walking distance from the Strip. The hotel also offers free parking for its guests!
The Venetian Resort
Okay, I feel that I have to recommend one of the iconic hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. If you’re feeling like treating yourself, check out the Venetian! I love the Venetian. I like the casino, the bars, and the Grand Lux cafe for food, and the location is perfect.
It’s honestly right in the middle of the Strip, and if you’re lucky, you’ll even have a great view of the new Sphere. The Venetian is incredible, making you think you’re in Venice, Italy. You can even take a gondola ride! There’s also a lovely pool area where you can relax.
Hotels Downtown/ Freemont Street
The D Las Vegas
The D Las Vegas is a great option if you like to stay in downtown Las Vegas, just off of Freemont Street and not far from the Art District. I stayed here the last time I was in Las Vegas, and I have to say it was far better than I expected! I was looking to stay near the Arts District in a place with free parking.
The hotel has two buildings, and I asked for the quietest one. They gave me a room at the end of the hall, which was perfect! These rooms are clean, comfortable, and newly renovated. The only downside is that there isn’t a fridge in the room.
Free parking is available for hotel guests just across the street. If you’re looking for a budget stay, I’d definitely recommend checking out The D Las Vegas. The hotel also has great dining options, such as an excellent Italian restaurant (get the lobster pasta!) or a quick, simple hotdog.
The English Hotel
The English Hotel is probably my favourite hotel in Las Vegas! Its interior is stunning, and its location is right in the Arts District. This design hotel will be a bit of a splurge, but your stay will be worth it!
This is where you can pamper yourself and relax away from the noisy casinos. It will take you a 30-minute walk to get to Freemont Street and probably a 10-minute drive to the Strip.
The English Hotel has a pool, a nice bar and a fantastic breakfast buffet. You’ll find many excellent coffee shops, bars and places to eat around the hotel. I love the Arts District! You can also opt to stay on the Strip first and then move to the Arts District or Freemont Street for a change of scenery.
Why is Las Vegas fabulous for solo female travel?
Okay, I’m not going to say that Las Vegas is the place to be from all of the destinations for women travelling alone! But Las Vegas is something different, and there is enough to do by yourself. There are so many dining options, shows to see, malls to shop, state parks to hike, and many options to take yourself out on a date.
If you want to pamper your self-care needs, you can find all the luxury in the world! I personally love the combination of entertainment (basically the craziness that’s called Las Vegas) and nature adventures just a few hours away!
The best Things to do in Las Vegas for women travelling alone
1. Catch a show
When in Las Vegas, you have to see a Las Vegas show or two! There’s so much to choose from, so go with what you like! Most shows have different ticket options, but in my experience, it’s not really necessary to buy the most expensive ticket unless you’re going for the whole experience, like table service.
With the abundance of shows to choose from, these are my recommendations.
Rouge in the Stratosphere
Rouge has everything a Las Vegas show should have! It has humour, it’s a bit raunchy, some nudity, amazing stunts, and even mind-blowing aerial performances! I enjoyed Rouge so much! There’s a reason they call it ‘the sexiest show in Vegas’.
I was absolutely in shock with all the amazing stunts they performed! It’s insanely good!
The Chippendales in the Rio
The Chippendales are iconic and definitely worth seeing at least once in your life! The show is exactly what you expect from the Chippendales: men dancing and taking their clothes off.
But nothing tacky! The show is well put together, with dancing, singing and fun interaction with the audience. No dollar bills are flying around! You also meet the men after the show at the venue bar.
2. Walk the Strip
The Strip is something you have to do when in Las Vegas. Don’t be mistaken! The Strip is huge, and it will take you a long time to walk from one end to the other! There are many excellent hotels like the famous Bellagio, the Venetian or Ceasar’s.
Take your time and stroll from one hotel to another. The Strip is getting longer and bigger, and even more hotels are being built.
3. See Freemont Street (Old Las Vegas)
Freemont Street is the old Las Vegas, the part where it all started! Some casinos have been there for many years. The area is not super big, and the main part is where the ceiling show is. During most nights, you’ll find some live performances on the streets.
4. The Arts District
The Arts District is my favourite neighbourhood, between the Strip and Freemont Street. It’s not big, but there’s a main street that has some excellent bars, restaurants and thrift stores. There’s also a lot of street art and murals that are awesome to see!
Be sure to grab lunch at Esters Kitchen, maybe get a $10 tattoo at Koolsville and then head over to Garagiste for a glass of wine!
5. Seven Magic Mountains
Seven Magic Mountains are located about 30 minutes south of Las Vegas. They are an art stellation of coloured stacked boulders in the middle of the desert. It’s a quick stop, but it’s still pretty cool to see.
Get there early to avoid the crowds!
6. Valley of Fire
Valley of Fire is my favourite thing to do in Las Vegas! I’ve been to Las Vegas many times but only learned about it a year ago. Valley of Fire is a fantastic state park about 40 minutes north of Las Vegas.
There’s an entrance fee of $15 per car. The scenic drive is great, especially during sunrise and sunset. You can easily park at all the scenic points and take short hikes. It’s so beautiful.
Just be careful. It will get extremely hot in summer, and not all hikes have great signage. It’s easy to get turned around. The best thing about the Valley of Fire is that it’s still pretty quiet!
Like I didn’t know about Valley of Fire, I feel many people don’t know.
7. Drive to Zion NP or Bryce NP
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Las Vegas is the perfect starting point or base for driving to Utah to visit Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon. Both are worth a visit, and if you do, I highly recommend booking a hotel near Zion.
You can easily visit Zion the first day and Bryce Canyon the next day. Are you already confused about the logistics? I have a full 7-day trip itinerary from Las Vegas to Utah ready for you!
8. Death Valley
Death Valley is another great National Park about two hours from Las Vegas. It is huge, so you can easily spend a few days there, staying overnight near the park.
If not, Death Valley can be done as a day trip. You have to choose which scenic points you would like to visit, and I recommend picking the ones not far from each other.
- Badwater Bassin
- Zabriskie Point
- Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes
- Dante’s View
9. Grand Canyon
Who doesn’t know the famous Grand Canyon? It can not be missed in this Ultimate Solo Female Travel Guide to Las Vegas! The Grand Canyon is located in Nevada and Utah. There is a west side entrance, which is the quickest when coming from Las Vegas.
Even though I’ve been to Las Vegas so many times, I still haven’t had the chance to visit the Grand Canyon. This is mainly because I found other things more interesting!
10. Helicopter ride over Las Vegas
A helicopter over Las Vegas is one of the most incredible things to do in Las Vegas! Nothing will beat the view from the sky of Las Vegas!
Even though it’s a splurge, it’s definitely worth the experience. You can choose from different tours. Some tours even make a combination with the Grand Canyon.
Who doesn’t want to take a helicopter ride over Las Vegas, land at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and celebrate with a glass of champagne?
Can you travel to Las Vegas on a budget?
Yes, you can! Compared to other major US cities, Las Vegas can be affordable for women travelling alone. When I planned my Las Vegas to Utah road trip, it was also mainly because other cities I was interested in visiting would cost me at least double my budget for Las Vegas.
New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Washington DC and Miami were much more expensive. The thing about Las Vegas is that they want you to gamble. So you can find affordable hotels on the Strip or in downtown Las Vegas.
Going out for food also doesn’t have to be crazy expensive. You need to do your research on where to go. Many hotels, especially hotels near Freemont Street, have the option for simple eats or lunch deals. I haven’t tried those yet, but it’s an option.
And if all else fails, there’s always In&Out (my personal favourite) or Chipotle😅
Shows on the Strip can range from $50 up to $200, depending on the type of show. I believe the cheapest ticket for Rouge in the Stratosphere was around $60.

Do I need a car in Las Vegas?
You don’t need a car if you’re only staying on the Strip. To visit Freemont Street, you can easily use an Uber. But I highly recommend you rent one! Because that’s what this Ultimate Solo Female Travel Guide To Las Vegas is all about!
You’ll have all the freedom you need when renting a car and driving out to all these cool places outside Las Vegas.
I need a car in Las Vegas, even if I’m not using it daily. Plenty of hotels also offer free parking to save some bucks!

Is Las Vegas safe for solo female travellers?
Las Vegas is safe for women travelling alone, as long as you practise the basic safety precautions you would at home. You’re good if you stick to the Strip, Freemont Street, and the Arts District.
However, take Ubers for longer distances. Just like any other major US city, there are still homeless and drug addicts on the streets. They don’t bother you, but always be cautious!
