As I said, as a flight attendant, I have seen my share of long-haul flight headaches. Many of them could have been prevented with the proper preparation and organization of your must-have travel accessories!
But before we begin this list of essentials for a long-haul flight, let me answer some questions from a flight attendant’s point of view.
What should I pack in my inflight bag for a long-haul flight?
To get organised in the best way possible, you need to pack 2 bags (without checked-in luggage or your carry-on when travelling without check-in luggage).
First, bring a smaller backpack, tote bag, or weekend bag that you can easily stow underneath the seat in front of you. In this bag, you’ll pack all the essentials you might need during your flight.
You’ll have everything within reach and don’t need to get up to fetch something out of the luggage bin every time. Stuff you might need at the end of the flight or something you’ll only use once can be safely put inside your carry-on.
Keep your essentials backpack for things like a medicine kit, power cords, electronics, beauty essentials, entertainment, snacks, sleeping masks, etc.
Then, you’ll need a separate small cross-body bag or pouch for all your valuables. Keep this little bag on you and put your passport, iPhone, wallet, travel documents, crucial medication and cash in there. These are the items you do not want to lose because that would really eff up your trip!
Everything else is replaceable and can be bought at the destination.

- Bring entertainment, such as a pre-downloaded book, podcast, or movie, to keep you busy. Download something you could binge-watch! Now is the perfect time!

- Bring a relaxing tea (if that’s your thing) like chamomile or ginger to help you relax! Don’t overdo it on the alcohol. Walk around now and then to stretch your legs.
